Science Course Descriptions
The science department offers a wide variety of courses. Students may select from course offerings in the Physical, Life, and Earth science areas all of which emphasize laboratory investigations as part of the problem-solving process. All D100 science courses include 20% of laboratory investigation, which involve lessons in the laboratory, classroom, or the field that provide students opportunities to explore the natural world or collect and examine data using tools, materials, and models. Science courses also emphasize the weighing of facts and arriving at valid conclusions by making careful observations.
Most Illinois colleges and universities, and many out-of-state colleges require three years of high school science for college admission. All students are encouraged to plan their science course selections carefully and should consult with their high school science teacher and guidance counselor on a regular basis. Parents are also encouraged to discuss their child's course selection with high school teachers and guidance staff.
